Character History:
Once upon a time, Fleamont and Euphemia Potter, presumably brought together by their horrible names, married and lived very long lives together. Fleamont made a ton of gold by inventing Sleekeazy's Hair Potion, and he and Euphemia lived comfortable and happy lives, except for one thing. They could not seem to conceive a child.

Then one day the heavens opened up and down descended the most ethereal of sights! A small basket bathed in golden light floated down to their feet, and once it landed a beautiful baby boy stood up and declared in perfect English - “Mother! Father! It is I, your precious miracle!”

...Alright, perhaps not literally, but that is how the Potters treated their newborn son once they had him. By this point, they were in their early sixties, much older than most parents, and decided not to curse their baby with an unusual name and gave him one of the most common names out there – James. Euphemia and Fleamont spoiled their son rotten. They were good people with good intentions, and they certainly taught James important things that other families weren't emphasizing in the 60s and 70s (like how blood purity is a silly concept and that there's nothing wrong with muggles at all), but he came to Hogwarts with an over-inflated ego and the belief that he could do no wrong. He was better than everyone around him, special, and everyone would love him.

This was only reinforced by his early Hogwarts experiences. James excelled in his classes (most notably Transfiguration) and quickly made friends. The hat sorted him into Gryffindor, just like his father before him, along with a boy he met on the train – Sirius Black. The two of them were thick as thieves their entire lives, and it wasn't long before they added Remus Lupin and Peter Pettigrew to their circle. The four of them dubbed themselves the Marauders, and they were always up to some sort of mischief around the school, and had an intense bullying-based rivalry with Severus Snape. (Later, James would save him from a deadly prank by Sirius. Despite everything, James never wanted him dead.)

Their friendship went much deeper than that though. By second year, James, Sirius, and Peter had discovered that Remus was actually a werewolf, and they went out of their their way to help him in any way they could, so he wouldn't have to suffer alone. The three of them illegally became animagi (wizards who can shift into a specific animal at will) so they could spent full moons with him. By fifth year, James was able to transform into a stag. Together the four of them ran around as animals, and it kept Remus' werewolf form much calmer. They gave each other new nicknames, and James was dubbed Prongs.

Throughout his Hogwarts years James was terribly infatuated with Lily Evans, and spent years chasing her. She was unimpressed with his ego though, and thought he was an arrogant toerag. It wasn't until his head deflated a little in seventh year that she developed feelings for him. There were a lot of reasons for that, honestly. Sirius came to live with James and his family, after his own kicked him out. In the background, Voldemort was rising and a war was brewing. Things were getting scarier, and James' actions were increasingly selfless and for the good of those other than himself. He would never want for money and didn't need a job, so his immediate plans after school ended were to join the war effort. His change in attitude prompted the school to declare him Head Boy, and Lily was made Head Girl. They fell in love and things moved fast from there. Over that Christmas holiday they met each others' families, and within a year or so of graduation, they were married. Sirius was their best man.

James will be from the middle of seventh year, but a quick note about his future – it will not be so kind to him. He and Lily have a son, Harry, and learn that there is a prophecy about him that makes him a target of Voldemort. Because of this, they go into hiding and it is torture for James. They initially make Sirius their secret keeper, but then they switch it at the last moment to Peter, because no one would ever suspect him whereas everyone would assume Sirius is keeping them safe. However, Peter turns out to be a spy, and gives their location to Voldemort. He turns up to Godric's Hollow on Halloween 1981 to murder Harry. James faces him wandless to buy Lily and Harry a few more seconds of time, and is hit with the killing curse. He is frequently mentioned as having died “straight-backed and proud” and with the insistence that he went down fighting.

Abilities/Special Powers: James is a wizard! This means he can do both wand magic and wandless magic (like apparition). His strongest subjects are transfiguration and defense against the dark arts. He's also an animagus, which means he can turn into a specific animal connected to his personality at will – for him, this animal is a stag. He's also very skilled at flying, and is a fantastic Quidditch player.

Third-Person Sample:
Saying it had been a terrible double-date would have been an understatement.

Petunia and Vernon stormed out of the restaurant after James had been...well. He preferred not to think of it as rude. He'd answered all of Vernon's questions honestly, after all. But they had gotten upset, and that had upset Lily, and that was what he felt bad about.

“I really am sorry,” he says, as they walked back to her family's house arm-in-arm.

Things are mostly quiet between them as they walked, and as James apologizes for what must be the hundredth time.

“I know that meant a lot to you, and I shouldn't've gotten him so riled up,” he admits. “I promise, I'm going to make up with him as soon as I can. The last thing I want is to come between you and your--”

Suddenly, the warmth of Lily beside him is gone, and her silence is even more noticeable than before. She vanished into thin air, leaving James by himself. At first he thinks she must have gone ahead via apparition, but...no, they were touching. He would have gone with her.

“...Lily?”

He looks around and while he's still standing in snow, it finally dawns on him that he isn't on a street anymore, but on the grounds of some...manor? In the distance? It looks like...

...His blood runs cold when he realizes, and he has to cover his mouth when the implications flood in. He's back. He's back, and this is Wonderland, and he forgot all about it.

He feels like he's going to be sick, but he runs to the mansion as quickly as he can.

First-Person Sample:

[It doesn't take long for James to find his network device again, and to sprint up to his (his and Lily's) room for a change of clothes that are a bit less date night and a tad less covered in snow.

He's fiddling with his wedding ring when the video begins, making sure it's securely on his hand. It's a bit hard – his hands are shaking. He tries to sound like himself on camera though, and tries not to seem so shaken.
]

I...I-I'm. I'm back. How long was I gone? Should've been about a week, right?

[What if it wasn't, though? What if he was like Coraline and came back years and years later?]

Lily? Sirius? I'm back, and I remember. I'm-- you know where I am. Just thought I'd let all of Wonderland know.

[He forces a smile, and gives a wave to the camera before shutting it off.]
